Biographies

Dr. Hardy Chan

Dr. Hardy Chan is presently the Chief Executive Officer of Tanvex Biologics, Inc., a company dedicated to the development of follow-on-biologics and also novel biopharmaceuticals. He is also a Senior Advisor to ScinoPharm Taiwan, Ltd., an active pharmaceutical ingredient producer that he co-founded in 1997. Dr. Chan was previously Syntex's Vice President of Research and Director of Biotechnology. Prior to joining Syntex, he spent 4 years at the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Chan holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin. He has published over 60 papers in scientific journals and holds a number of US patents.

 

 
Professor Sum-Ping Lee

Professor Lee is the Dean and Dexter HC Man Family Professor in Medical Science at the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine of The University of Hong Kong (HKU). Before joining HKU, he was the Cyrus E Rubin Endowed Chair and Head, Division of Gastroenterology, University of Washington School of Medicine Teaching Hospitals, Seattle, Washington, USA. Professor Lee received his MBBS and MD degrees from HKU in 1970 and 1980 respectively, and his PhD in 1978 from the University of Auckland, New Zealand. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, the American College of Physicians, the American College of Gastroenterology and the Royal College of Physicians (London), and a Member of the American Association of Physicians, scientific advisor to the Council of the National Institute of Health (USA) and the Medical Research Council of UK, Canada, Australia and Singapore. He has received a number of honors including Outstanding Research Award from the American Chemical Society (Colloid and Interfacial Science Section), 2004; Distinguished Achievement Award from the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease, 2010; and Mastership from the American College of Gastroenterology, 2010. He also serves on the editorial board of several major international scientific journals and has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals.
